Povestea Tokio Hotel s-a construit in jurul gemenilor Bill si Tom Kaulitz, nascuti pe 1 septembrie 1989. Cei doi au inceput sa cante de la varsta de 9 ani.
In 2001, dupa un concert sustinut in orasul natal, cei doi gemeni i-au intalnit pe Gustav si pe Georg. Asa s-a format trupa Devilish. Doi ani mai tarziu, producatorul Peter Hoffmann i-a ajutat sa semneze cu Universal Music, insa sub numele de Tokio Hotel.
Inca de la primul single, alegerea lui Hoffmann s-a dovedit a fi un succes, "Durch den Monsum" ocupand locul 1 in topurile din Germania si Austria. Dupa lansarea albumului "Schrei" in septembrie 2005, au urmat alte trei single-uri de nr. 1: "Schrei", "Rette mich" si Der letzte Tag".
Odata cu succesul Tokio Hotel au aparut si criticile. Majoritatea au fost tintite asupra imaginii androgine a fratilor Kaulitz, dar mai ales la adresa imaginii lui Bill. Frizura ciudata, vestimentatie ambigua, farduri, unghii date cu oja... O imagine asemanatoare cu cea a lui Brian Molko de la Placebo.
Alti critici i-au acuzat pe producatori ca scot bani de pe urma unor pusti imaturi. Cu toate acestea, popularitatea Tokio Hotel a crescut si mai mult, chiar daca vocea lui Bill a inceput sa se schimbe, generand astfel relansarea albumului "Schrei".
Orice s-ar spune, pustii din Magdeburg au dat lovitura pe piata muzicala. Iar albumul "Zimmer 483" nu va fi altceva decat o continuare a unui debut fulminant.
